Mission – The Krewe of Mona Lisa and MoonPie supports creativity, Olde Towne Slidell, and fun. As such, all members are requested to design their costumes and “Floats” based on the krewe theme. No motorized vehicles allowed. This is a fun, family event. Last, let no fake MoonPies be thrown!
Costume – All members parade in costume. It can be simple or elaborate, your choice as long as you are able to be identified by your sub-krewe theme. We are family parade and costumes should reflect that fact. Please remember we are a walking parade and comfortable shoes and attire are a must. Prepare for weather conditions that change at the last minute. We parade at night, so bright colors or battery lights help your public to view you in your full glory.
MoonPies – Our krewe’s traditional throw is the mini-MoonPie. We ask each rider to have 3-5 cases of MoonPies to throw during our 1.2 mile parade. It’s not cool to run out. The MoonPies run about $24/case. They can be ordered on the membership form. NO political or business advertising is allowed in the parade.
Membership – All members must fill out a membership form. Immediate family members can join at the family rate. This does not include in-laws or grandkids. Membership has two categories, krewe member or flambeaux carrier
Floats – Each sub-krewe needs to have a float or other un-motorized device to transport their MoonPies. Most of our floats are decorated shopping carts, baby strollers, etc. A large shopping cart will carry approximately 5-6 boxes of MoonPies. We encourage you to produce the float yourself in your own style.
Minions –Every sub-krewe captain needs minions. Attached are membership forms. The form can be copied. Note that October 1st is when membership prices go up! People can register after that date, but membership dues go up. If you have family and friends who don’t wish to partake of the parade, but would like to join you at the ball, a limited number of tickets are available. Order them early.
